Literature Assignment

Important Note: A penalty of ONE mark per day will be deducted for each day of late work.

Literature Assignment for March Holidays
:

Imagine yourself as Ponyboy after your talk with Darry and Sodapop near the end of the novel (pgs. 123 to 126). As all three of you race home that night, with Darry and Sodapop panting and jostling for position beside you under a star-lit night with air so clear and cold and clean it almost sparkled, you cannot help but feel that it is your family that made all the difference in the way you, Bob, Johnny, and Dally turned out in the end.

You resolve to write a personal letter to Darry, showing him how much you appreciate and thank him for what he has done for you by sharing with him your thoughts on the matter- your belief that having a real family that genuinely cares about you has shielded you from the worst that life has to offer.

In particular, your letter should include your understanding of the following:

1) the role Darry plays after your father has passed away,
2) a comparison with Bob's family,
3) a comparison with Johnny's family,
4) a comparison with Dally's (lack of) family, and
5) Darry's sacrifices, as well as words of gratitude and thanks.

The required length of the letter should be about 600 words. It should be type-written (suitably paragraphed and spaced), though you can be creative in its presentation. Type your name, class register number and date submitted on the top right hand corner.
